Base game only. The cosmology, the full family tree, and every NPC with a questline, grouped by the circle they belong to. Every entry says who the character is and where you meet them. The ones with a questline also list who they are tied to, what they want, and what a fresh playthrough has to watch for. Ctrl+F any name, or use the index at the bottom. New to the story? Page 1 tells it in eleven steps. Page 3 is the main story, start to finish.
The cosmos is a chain of command, and the outer gods keep pulling at it from the sides.
The Greater Will is an entity in "a lightless void outside the Lands Between." It never speaks. Its envoys are the Two Fingers, who "communicate through a sign language of light," which is why Finger Readers such as Enia exist. Long ago it sent "a golden star bearing a beast" into the world. That beast "would later become the Elden Ring." It is the Elden Beast, described in its remembrance as the "living incarnation of the concept of Order."
Marika was chosen by the Two Fingers as an Empyrean, ascended to godhood, and became "the vessel of the Elden Ring." Her Golden Order was founded on one act: she took Destined Death out of the Ring and sealed it inside her shadow, Maliketh. That is why nothing truly dies in the Lands Between and why she is called "the Eternal." Her children by three unions are the demigods. When she shattered the Ring, each of them took a shard, a Great Rune, and went to war.
The Greater Will is one of several outer gods. Each of the others has a hook into the world. The Frenzied Flame reaches in through the Three Fingers under Leyndell. The Formless Mother, who "craves wounds," found Mohg, and the Scarlet Rot lives in Malenia and in the pests of Caelid. A fell god "still lurks within the Fire Giants." The Dark Moon showed itself to Rennala and then to Ranni. The dragons had their own god, and their own Elden Lord, Placidusax, who "once his god was fled" sat waiting beyond time in Farum Azula. You, the Tarnished, are at the bottom of this chain, and most of the game's choices are about which of these powers you let pull on you.
The gold column is the Golden Order. The coloured boxes are the other outer gods and the people each one has reached.
Terms. An Empyrean is a demigod who could become the next god, the next vessel for the Ring. Only three lived at the Shattering: Ranni, Miquella and Malenia. Each was assigned their own Two Fingers. A shadow (Maliketh for Marika, Blaidd for Ranni) is a beast the Fingers give an Empyrean as a guardian; Iji says it "will go mad" and turn on her if she defies them. A Great Rune is a shard of the Ring; a shardbearer is a demigod holding one. An Omen is a child born with horns and tails, which the Golden Order treats as a curse. Under the Erdtree, before the Order, all life was blended in the Crucible, so horns are older than the gold.
Marika and Radagon are one being, so the family tree folds in on itself.
Read the tree from the middle. Marika and Radagon are a single god in two bodies. Casting the Law of Regression at the statue in the Erdtree Sanctuary turns Radagon's likeness into hers and reveals the line "Radagon is Marika." Her own echo in the Queen's Bedchamber says it plainly: "O Radagon, leal hound of the Golden Order. Thou'rt yet to become me." They pulled in opposite directions. Marika shattered the Ring with her hammer; Radagon tried to mend it with the same tool.
Three unions produce the demigods. Marika's first husband was Godfrey, the badlands chieftain Hoarah Loux, who became the first Elden Lord and fathered Godwyn and the Omen twins Morgott and Mohg. Radagon, before he "returned to the Erdtree Capital" to marry Marika, was married to Rennala of the Carian royal house, and their children are Radahn, Rykard and Ranni. Those three "became demigod stepchildren" through that second marriage. Finally Marika and Radagon, the same god twice over, produced Miquella and Malenia, "the children of a single god," which is exactly what makes them Empyreans and what cursed them from birth.
Boxes are people. Colour is the house. Solid lines are marriages and children. Dashed and dotted lines are the parts the game states but does not spell out.
What the base game does not say. Melina's mother is never named. She says "I was born at the foot of the Erdtree. Where mother gave me my purpose," and the datamined file name reads as "daughter of Marika," but that is not in-game text. Nepheli Loux is not on the tree: Gideon adopted her, her surname matches Hoarah Loux, and Kenneth calls her worthy of "Limgrave's lineage," none of which states descent. Godrick's exact line through Godfrey is not given either; Enia only calls him "the runt of the litter, his divine blood sorely diluted." Marika's hand in the Night of the Black Knives is implied (the assassins were Numen "who had close ties with Marika herself") and never stated.
Seven demigods hold Great Runes, and each one guards a legacy dungeon.
The Two Fingers give you one instruction: take two Great Runes, come to Leyndell, become Elden Lord. Only Godrick and Rennala are on the natural early path. Radahn and Rykard are reachable in the middle of the game. Morgott is mandatory. Mohg and Malenia are hidden, and neither is needed for any ending.
Demigod
Parents
Great Rune and where to restore it
Where fought
What drives them
Godrick the Grafted
Distant descendant of Godfrey's golden lineage
Godrick's Great Rune (raises all attributes). Divine Tower of Limgrave.
Stormveil Castle, Limgrave
Power through grafting limbs onto himself. "The runt of the litter," beaten and spared by Malenia during the Shattering; his humiliation drives the whole castle.
Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon
Carian royal; wife of Radagon (not Marika's child)
Great Rune of the Unborn. Not restored; it is the amber egg, and it lets her rebirth you (respec).
Raya Lucaria Academy, Liurnia
Grief. Radagon left her the egg; she rebirths "frail and short-lived" children from it and sings to it.
Starscourge Radahn
Radagon and Rennala
Radahn's Great Rune (HP, FP, stamina). Divine Tower of Caelid.
Wailing Dunes, Redmane Castle, during the festival
Once, to halt the stars. He learned gravity magic in Sellia so he would never have to abandon his scrawny horse Leonard. Now rot-mad and eating corpses.
Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy
Radagon and Rennala
Rykard's Great Rune (HP on kills). Divine Tower of West Altus.
Volcano Manor, Mt. Gelmir
To devour the gods and live forever. He fed himself, "Great Rune and all," to the God-Devouring Serpent. His own men sought the Serpent-Hunter spear to stop him.
Morgott, the Omen King
Godfrey and Marika
Morgott's Great Rune (greatly raises HP). Divine Tower of East Altus.
Elden Throne, Leyndell. Also as Margit at Stormveil's gate and outside Leyndell.
To protect the Erdtree that never loved him. His remembrance: "He loved not in return, for he was never loved, but nevertheless, love it he did."
Mohg, Lord of Blood
Godfrey and Marika
Mohg's Great Rune (blood blessing for phantoms). Divine Tower of East Altus.
Mohgwyn Palace, underground
To found the Mohgwyn Dynasty with Miquella as its god and himself as consort. Miquella never answered him.
Malenia, Blade of Miquella
Marika and Radagon
Malenia's Great Rune (attacks heal, flasks weaker). Isolated Divine Tower.
Elphael, Brace of the Haligtree
To be her brother's blade and never lose. Bloomed against Radahn and ruined Caelid; a third bloom would make her the goddess of rot.
Ranni the Witch
Radagon and Rennala
Gideon says she "is said to have cast aside" hers; no item text confirms it.
Never fought. She is the questgiver of the Age of Stars.
To get out from under the Two Fingers. She stole part of the Rune of Death and killed her own body on the Night of the Black Knives.
Godwyn the Golden
Godfrey and Marika
None. He died before the Shattering.
Not a boss. His body lies under Stormveil and in Deeproot Depths.
Nothing. "Perished in soul alone." His corpse, the Prince of Death, spreads Deathroot through the roots.
Miquella
Marika and Radagon
None held in the base game.
Not a boss. His cocoon sits in Mohgwyn Palace.
To cure Malenia's rot and give Godwyn a true death. He left Golden Order fundamentalism for Unalloyed Gold and grew the Haligtree.
Also on the throne's side.Godfrey, the first Elden Lord, returns to Leyndell after the Erdtree burns and fights you twice: once as a golden shade before Morgott, once in the flesh in the Ashen Capital. Then Radagon and the Elden Beast. All three are in Marika's household below.
Roundtable Hold is Gideon's intelligence office, and half its guests are lying to each other.
Melina brings you here after your first grace outside Limgrave and the Weeping Peninsula. It is a mirror of the round table in Leyndell, outside space. Gideon runs it. Everyone else is a Tarnished with their own reason to be at the table, and the two with the strongest reasons, Fia and D, want each other dead. The Hold decays after the Erdtree burns and Gideon leaves it once Maliketh dies.
Everyone here except Enia and Hewg is a Tarnished. Dashed lines are friendships; the red arrow is a murder you set up.
Sir Gideon Ofnir, the All-Knowing Leader of the Hold; final boss before Godfrey
Gideon runs the Hold as an intelligence operation, paying for reports on the demigods he cannot place (Mohg, Malenia, Miquella, Ranni) and treating you as a house guest until you hold a Great Rune and have spoken to Enia. He has "glimpsed into the will of Queen Marika" and "shuddered in fear." What he saw convinced him no Tarnished can become Lord. Nepheli he adopted when she lost grace, and discarded once she suspected his men had sacked the Village of the Albinaurics for the Haligtree medallion.
Wants
Knowledge as leverage for the throne; then, having seen Marika's will, to stop anyone reaching it. "Queen Marika has high hopes for us. That we continue to struggle, unto eternity."
Tied to
Nepheli (foster daughter), Ensha, Seluvis (old feud over Dolores), every shardbearer.
First met
Roundtable Hold, his study, guarded by Ensha.
Fresh run
Report Mohgwyn, the Haligtree, Mohg's death and Malenia's death to him before killing Maliketh; each pays out an incantation or cookbook. Kill Mohg at any point before the final Gideon fight and he adds Bloodboon to his boss kit. He leaves the Hold after Maliketh and fights you in the Erdtree Sanctuary, unavoidable.
Ends
Dies in the Ashen Capital. "A Tarnished cannot become a lord. Not even you. A man cannot kill a god."
Ensha of the Royal Remains Gideon's silent attendant
The bone-armoured figure outside Gideon's door. His armour belonged to "the soulless king" Ensha. He gives the What Do You Want? gesture and nothing else. Gideon's men sacked the Village of the Albinaurics for the medallion. The game never says who led them, and putting Ensha at the head of them is an inference rather than something it states.
Pick up either half of the Haligtree Secret Medallion and he invades the Hold on your next visit. Kill him, then loot his spot for the Clinging Bone and Royal Remains set. Fextralife says resting at the Forge of the Giants without a medallion half removes him for good; Eldenpedia lists no such deadline.
Nepheli Loux Warrior of the badlands; the Hold's conscience
A Tarnished of the same warrior stock as Godfrey, raised by Gideon after she lost grace. Her name invites the guess that she descends from Hoarah Loux; the game never says so. She fights with Stormhawk axes, helps at Godrick and at the Village of the Albinaurics, and then breaks when she understands what Gideon's men did there.
Wants
Justice for the weak. Later, a purpose of her own outside Gideon's guidance.
Stormveil, in the small room off the path to the Secluded Cell grace. Summonable for Godrick.
Fresh run
Never give her Seluvis's Potion. When she despairs at the Hold, fetch The Stormhawk King ashes: Imbued Sword Key at the Four Belfries, the Precipice of Anticipation gate, kill the Grafted Scion, open the door by the chapel, rooftop. Give it to her before Maliketh. Finish the Albinauric village step before resting at the Forge. After Morgott, with Kenneth's quest advanced, rest at the Godrick grace and cycle Gostoc until she takes the throne room.
Ends
Lady of Limgrave, summonable for Godfrey; or Seluvis's puppet; or gone.
Kenneth Haight Self-styled rightful lord of Limgrave
Shouts at you from a ruin between Mistwood and the Third Church. He calls Godrick "a jumped up country bumpkin" and wants Fort Haight cleared. He is harmless and sincere and ends up admitting he needs a real lord.
On a ruin beside the road between the Mistwood Outskirts and the Third Church of Marika.
Fresh run
Clear Fort Haight, take the Erdsteel Dagger, rest at Fort Haight West, accept his service, then let him find the fort overrun. After Morgott he joins Nepheli in Stormveil's throne room. Seluvis's Potion to Nepheli locks this.
Offers you the side path into Stormveil, then stalks you through the castle and pockets a share of the runes you drop there. He hates Godrick and stomps his corpse once you kill him. He later serves Nepheli.
Fresh run
Do not kill him. Once he joins the throne room he sells an Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone for 20,000 runes, and that stone is lost if he dies.
Smithing Master Hewg The chained smith
A Misbegotten who talks, chained here by Marika to forge a weapon that can kill a god, and he prays to her and speaks of "the sheer terror of her." He upgrades weapons past +3 and handles Ashes of War. He comes to see Roderika "almost like a daughter."
Nothing breaks. After Farum Azula his memory fails: "Who are you? Oh, I must be a blacksmith." Smithing keeps working.
Roderika Spirit tuner
A crestfallen Tarnished in the crimson hood of "expatriated royalty." Her companions were grafted into the chrysalids in Stormveil. She calls herself a craven and finds a purpose in spirit tuning.
First met
Stormhill Shack, on the road to Stormveil.
Fresh run
Take the Chrysalids' Memento from the corpse pile in the Rampart Tower and give it to her (resting at a Liurnia grace also moves her on). At the Hold, exhaust her for a Golden Seed, then talk to Hewg about her, relay it, talk to Hewg again, and reload: she sits in his room offering Spirit Tuning. Upgrade any ash to +4 for the Curtsy gesture.
Finger Reader Enia Voice of the Two Fingers
An ancient crone who "interprets the words of the Fingers, envoys to the Greater Will." Her chamber opens after your first shardbearer. She turns Remembrances into weapons and spells and sells the armour of dead demigods. She is the one who tells you Marika "is the vessel of the Elden Ring, carrier of its vision. A god, in truth."
Fresh run
Two Great Runes earn a Talisman Pouch. Nothing breaks. After Maliketh: "The Rune of Death is unbound. Farewell it is, then."
Twin Maiden Husks The Hold's shop
Two silent statues who sell whatever Bell Bearing you hand them. Every merchant who dies passes their stock here, which is why killing a merchant is survivable. No quest.
D, Hunter of the Dead (Darian) Golden Order zealot
One of inseparable twins, "two bodies, one soul." He hunts Those Who Live in Death and their Deathroot because "their mere existence sullies the guidance of gold." He introduces you to Gurranq and gives Fia the reason to kill him.
Stormhill, east of Stormhill Shack, mourning a corpse.
Fresh run
Kill the Tibia Mariner at Summonwater Village; he moves to the Hold. Show him Deathroot to unlock the Sending Gate to Gurranq. When Fia hands you the Weathered Dagger, returning it to D is what kills him. Killing him yourself at Stormhill makes Devin hostile forever.
Ends
Fia stabs him in a back room of the Hold. His Twinned Set and bell bearing lie there.
D, Beholder of Death (Devin) Darian's twin
Asleep on a balcony outside the Valiant Gargoyles arena in the Siofra Aqueduct under Nokron. Give him the unaltered Twinned Set and he wakes, says his brother's name, and later stands over Fia's corpse in Deeproot Depths to gloat. Reload and he leaves the set and the Inseparable Sword.
Fia, Deathbed Companion Champion of Those Who Live in Death
A Deathbed Companion lies with the dying to grant them warmth. Fia was chased out of her homeland for it and came here for Godwyn, whose soul died on the Night of the Black Knives while his body lived on. She wants to lie with the Prince of Death and "conceive a rune" so that the living dead are no longer hunted. Her embrace gives a blessing and costs you five percent of your maximum HP, which the game never tells you.
Tied to
D (she uses you to kill him), Rogier (confidant), Devin, Ranni (the Cursemark comes from Ranni's dead body), Godwyn.
First met
Roundtable Hold, her bedroom. Later at the Across the Roots grace, Deeproot Depths.
Fresh run
Let her hold you. After Rogier has the Black Knifeprint, "Talk in secret" for the Knifeprint Clue. Once you have touched Altus (which starts the Radahn festival) she offers the Weathered Dagger; give it to D. In Deeproot Depths, beat her champions and say "I want to be held," then bring the Cursemark of Death from Ranni's quest. Reload, touch her, kill Lichdragon Fortissax in the dream, and loot the Mending Rune of the Death-Prince. Reaching Farum Azula first moves her to Deeproot early.
Ends
Age of the Duskborn ending. She dies in Deeproot either way.
Sorcerer Rogier Spellblade investigating the Black Knives
Rogier is the one who works out what happened. He finds Godwyn's face under Stormveil, catches Deathblight there, and traces the black knives to the Eternal City and to Ranni. He believes the living dead are victims of a flaw in the Order and hopes to save them.
Stormveil chapel, past the Rampart Tower grace. Summonable for Margit.
Fresh run
Talk to him in Stormveil before Godrick. Get the Black Knifeprint from the assassin behind the illusory wall in Black Knife Catacombs and give it to him before you first speak to Ranni; speaking to Ranni first skips part of his dialogue, and whether it blocks the rest is unsettled, so do the Knifeprint first and the question never comes up. He sends you to serve her, and that is what kills him.
Ends
Dead on the Hold's balcony. His rapier and bell bearing remain. Fia later summons him as a champion.
Ranni's circle exists to get her out from under the Two Fingers.
Ranni is the Empyrean who said no. She stole a fragment of the Rune of Death, forged the black knives with it, killed her own body, and moved her soul into a doll in the likeness of her snow-witch mentor. Her vassals are a shadow who was built to betray her, a troll counselor in a mirror helm, and a sorcerer who is secretly planning to puppet her. Her quest ends with her murdering her own Two Fingers and offering you a cold marriage and a thousand-year voyage.
Ranni's quest passes through Radahn's death, because the stars have to move before Nokron opens.
Ranni the Witch Lunar Princess; Empyrean who refused
Daughter of Rennala and Radagon, sister of Radahn and Rykard. "Each of us was chosen by our own Two Fingers, as a candidate to succeed Queen Marika," she says, "but I would not acquiesce." She first meets you as Renna on a wall at the Church of Elleh, at night, and gives you the Spirit Calling Bell. Her real seat is Ranni's Rise at the Three Sisters, behind Caria Manor.
Wants
"An order not of gold, but the stars and moon of the chill night," kept "at a great remove" from the world. She means to take the Ring far away.
Church of Elleh at night, after you have used Torrent. Properly at Ranni's Rise after Royal Knight Loretta.
Fresh run
Serve her, talk to the three spectral vassals, then find Blaidd at Siofra River. He sends you to Seluvis, who sends you to Sellen; telling Blaidd or Iji what Sellen said starts the Radahn festival (an Altus grace also does, and skips Blaidd's Siofra step). Kill Radahn, drop down the Starfall Crater to Nokron, take the Fingerslayer Blade from Night's Sacred Ground. Finish everything you want from Seluvis first, because the Blade kills him. Then, in order:
the Carian Inverted Statue at the Study Hall
the Cursemark from her body in the Divine Tower of Liurnia
Renna's Rise
the Miniature Ranni in Ainsel River, talked to three times
the Baleful Shadow in Nokstella
the Discarded Palace Key
the Dark Moon Ring from the locked chest in the Grand Library
the Lake of Rot, then Astel
the hole beside the Cathedral of Manus Celes grace
Attack her, kill Seluvis, or give her Seluvis's draught and you need absolution at the Church of Vows.
Ends
Age of the Stars: after the Elden Beast, her blue sign appears beside Marika. Take it instead of touching her. A grace called Ranni's Chamber later appears at her Rise.
Blaidd the Half-Wolf Ranni's shadow
The Two Fingers gave Blaidd to Ranni as "her very shadow, incapable of treachery." Rennala raised him as Ranni's stepbrother. Iji explains the catch: if an Empyrean resists the Fingers, "the shadow will go mad, transforming from a follower into a horrid curse." His sword says he "swore to serve no master but Ranni" in defiance of that. He loses anyway.
First met
Mistwood Ruins, howling from a tower. Kalé teaches you the Finger Snap to call him down.
Fresh run
Kill Darriwil with him at the Forlorn Hound Evergaol and tell Iji he sent you. Meet him at Siofra River before the festival starts. Summon him for Radahn. After Radahn, as Ranni's quest moves on, Iji locks him in the Forlorn Hound Evergaol; free him. After Astel he stands hostile outside Ranni's Rise.
Ends
Always dies mad at Ranni's Rise. Drops the Royal Greatsword and his armour.
War Counselor Iji Carian smith and counselor; a talking troll
Sells Somber stones on the Road to the Manor. His mirror helm wards off the Greater Will's intervention, the same trick the Nox used. He is the one who spells out how shadows work and why Radahn's death matters: "the stars would once again resume their movement."
Fresh run
Blaidd's referral unlocks the Carian Filigreed Crest. His Jerren dialogue is one way to start the festival. After you kill Blaidd, exhaust his "Blaidd's Death" line, leave, and return: he is dead by black flame with the bodies of several Black Knife Assassins around him. Bell bearing and Mirrorhelm. Attack him and he disappears.
Preceptor Seluvis Sorcerer in Ranni's service; puppeteer
Pompous, and worse than he looks. Under the Three Sisters he keeps a hidden basement of people he has turned into puppets. His potion is meant for Nepheli; the real scheme is a draught for Ranni herself. Gideon fell out with him over Dolores the Sleeping Arrow.
Everything here must happen before Ranni gets the Fingerslayer Blade. The potion has three outs: Nepheli (ends her quest), the Dung Eater's bound body (ends his), or let Gideon destroy it and lie. Report back to open his shop and get the letter to Sellen. Find the illusory floor northeast of Ranni's Rise, take a free puppet, then accept his scheme and fetch Amber Starlight from the grotto northeast of Altus Highway Junction for the Magic Scorpion Charm. Do not give Ranni the Amber Draught.
Ends
Dead at his tower once Ranni has the Blade. His shop still works from the corpse.
Pidia, Carian Servant Albinauric merchant under Caria Manor
Reached by dropping from the Three Sisters cliff into a storeroom. Sells Celestial Dew and a Larval Tear. When Seluvis dies his puppets tear Pidia apart, leaving a bell bearing and one puppet: Nepheli if she drank the potion, Dolores if not.
Volcano Manor recruits Tarnished to kill Tarnished, in Rykard's name.
Tanith runs the manor for a lord who is now a serpent. Join and she hands you contracts: three Tarnished to invade and kill. Her recusants are Bernahl, Patches and Diallos. Her adopted daughter Rya is the one who invites you in, and Rya is the one whose secret the manor is built to keep. Kill Rykard and the whole household walks out.
The manor's contracts send you across the map. Diallos's own brother is the third target.
Tanith Mistress of Volcano Manor; Rykard's consort
A foreign dancer once, and the only human who stayed with Rykard when he became the serpent. Her pitch is "Rise with us, against the Erdtree." After Rykard dies she goes to his arena and eats him, to "become his serpent, his family."
Volcano Manor entrance hall. Rya's invitation, or the Abductor Virgin under Raya Lucaria, gets you there.
Fresh run
Take the Drawing-Room Key and the letters in order: Istvan (Stormhill), Rileigh (Altus), Juno Hoslow (Mountaintops). Refusing a task gets you expelled. Ask her about Zorayas' troubles for the Tonic of Forgetfulness. Killing Rykard early closes the contracts.
Ends
Attack her in the arena and Tanith's Knight invades and drops Aspects of the Crucible: Breath; her own body leaves the Consort's set.
Rykard, Lord of Blasphemy Praetor of the manor; the serpent
Son of Rennala and Radagon. "Rykard fed himself to the blasphemous serpent, Great Rune and all." When his "heroic aspirations degenerated into mere greed," his own men sought the Serpent-Hunter spear to stop him; it waits for whoever finishes the job. Three contracts get Tanith to teleport you to him; the Prison Town illusory wall and the Temple of Eiglay are the other ways in.
Fresh run
His death ends every open manor contract, sends Bernahl, Patches and Diallos away, and removes Rya if you have not spoken to her in her manor room.
Rya (Zorayas) Tanith's adopted daughter
Born "of a hideous ritual," a serpent wearing a human disguise. You meet her robbed of a necklace in a gazebo east of the Scenic Isle grace in Liurnia. Return it and she gives you the Volcano Manor Invitation. After the first contract she is found in her true form and, after the second, she confesses.
Buy the necklace from Boggart at Boilprawn Shack before joining the manor. On Altus take her hand at the Dectus summit or Lux Ruins. Kill the Godskin Noble in the Temple of Eiglay for the Serpent's Amnion and give it to her before she vanishes to the lava area. Speak to her in her manor room before Rykard.
Ends
Kill her at her request; leave her; or give her the Tonic so she sleeps. All three end with her gone, and all three leave Daedicar's Woe.
Knight Bernahl, later Recusant Bernahl Ashes of War merchant turned assassin
A champion whose Finger Maiden burned herself. He sells Ashes of War at the Warmaster's Shack on Stormhill and joins the manor when you do. After Rykard he leaves and later invades you beside the great bridge in Crumbling Farum Azula.
Fresh run
Talk to him at the shack first or none of this happens. After the second contract his letter sends you to invade Vargram and Wilhelm at the Fortified Manor in Leyndell; report back for Gelmir's Fury. His Farum Azula drop is the Blasphemous Claw, which parries Maliketh's Destined Death attacks.
Patches Trickster, then recusant, then shopkeeper
The recurring FromSoftware con man. Ambushes you from a chest in Murkwater Cave, surrenders at half health, and opens a shop. Sends you into a teleport trap, then kicks you off a cliff on Mt. Gelmir, then joins the manor because he hated "the gibberish about lost grace." He ends up wounded at the Shaded Castle handing you Dancer's Castanets for Tanith.
Fresh run
Spare him at Murkwater. After any completed manor contract his letter sends you to kill Great Horned Tragoth at Magma Wyrm Makar's arena for the Magma Whip Candlestick; collect it before leaving the manor. Do not hit him at the Shaded Castle. Return to Murkwater afterwards for one more ambush and his shop.
Diallos Noble of House Hoslow; would-be champion
Chasing the shadow of his legendary brother Juno. His servant Lanya is found dead on a sunken roof north of Academy Gate Town, killed by recusants, which is what sends him to the manor. Flattery keeps him there until the contracts (one of which is his own brother) turn his stomach. He ends up guarding the living jars of Jarburg from poachers and dying for it.
Meet him over Lanya's body before you finish Volcano Manor, or he never moves again. Find him at Jarburg after he leaves the manor; keep resting until the poachers come. Tell him yes, he defended them.
Ends
Always dies at Jarburg. Hoslow's Petal Whip and his mask remain.
Blackguard Big Boggart Prawn seller; Rya's thief
Robbed Rya's necklace. Sells it back for 1,000 runes at Boilprawn Shack, then moves to the moat outside Leyndell to sell crab. Buy his prawns a few times for his other lines. The Dung Eater's invasion happens where he sits and leaves him dying, so talk to him first.
Fresh run
Go to Volcano Manor without meeting Rya in Liurnia and Boggart's quest is lost. Killing him at the shack locks Rya's invitation.
The Academy's sorcerers are all trying to see the sky Rennala turned away from.
Glintstone sorcery began with astrologers who read fate in the stars. Rennala's full moon replaced that, and the Carian royal house took the Academy. The characters here are the leftovers: Sellen, expelled for chasing the "primeval current"; her two exiled masters, Azur and Lusat, who stared into it until they became glintstone; the witch-hunter Jerren, who swore himself to Radahn; and Thops, who cannot even get in the door.
Sellen's quest ends in Rennala's library with you choosing which of the two, Sellen or Jerren, walks out.
Sorceress Sellen Apostate Graven Witch
Expelled from Raya Lucaria for experiments meant to restore the primeval current, the "taboo" star magic the Academy abandoned. The Sellen you talk to is a projection; her real body is chained under Witchbane Ruins on the Weeping Peninsula. She wants Azur's and Lusat's bodies, and the Academy back from the Carians.
Waypoint Ruins cellar, Limgrave, behind the Mad Pumpkin Head.
Fresh run
Buying three sorceries unlocks a line of her story. Get Comet Azur from Azur (Hermit Village, Mt. Gelmir) and show her; she gives the Sellian Sealbreaker for Lusat in Sellia Hideaway. After Radahn, take her Primal Glintstone from Witchbane; reload so Jerren finds the body (talk to him at Redmane after Radahn first). Put the glintstone into the puppet in Seluvis's hidden basement. After Rennala, two signs appear outside the Grand Library door.
Ends
Gold sign: help her kill Jerren; she becomes a Graven Mass in Rennala's spot, still selling, and Azur's and Lusat's sets appear where they stood. Red sign: help Jerren kill her; he gives an Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone and the master sets are lost this cycle.
Witch-Hunter Jerren Herald of the festival
A Carian guest who swore himself to Radahn and now runs the Radahn festival from the church at Redmane Castle. He says the general is "eaten from the inside, by Malenia's scarlet rot." Talk to him in the plaza to start the fight and again in the chapel afterwards. He then hunts Sellen.
Primeval Sorcerer Azur Exiled founding master
Sits on the cliffs north of Hermit Village on Mt. Gelmir, fused to his own glintstone after seeing "darkness" in the primeval current. Cannot be attacked. Gives Comet Azur, the beam most builds used to melt bosses.
Master Lusat Exiled founding master
Behind the sealed door in Sellia Hideaway, Caelid. He "beheld the final moments of a great star cluster." Gives Stars of Ruin once Sellen's Sealbreaker opens the way.
Thops "Bluntstone" locked out of the Academy
Sits at the Church of Irith. Ten runes opens his shop. He needs a Glintstone Key to get back in; give him the second key, the one from the chandelier inside the Academy, and he leaves you the Erudition gesture. You find him dead at a desk by the Schoolhouse Classroom grace, with Thops's Barrier and his staff.
Fresh run
Give him the Academy's chandelier key, never the first key from the dragon's island.
Miriel, Pastor of Vows The turtle pope
A giant tortoise at the Church of Vows on Liurnia's east isle. Teaches every sorcery and incantation from the scrolls and prayerbooks you bring him, explains Radagon and Rennala, and runs absolution: Celestial Dew at his basin resets hostile NPCs. No quest.
Rennala, Queen of the Full Moon After the fight: the rebirth NPC
"In her youth, Rennala was a prominent champion who charmed the academy with her lunar magic." She founded the Carian royal house and married Radagon. When he left for Marika "her heart went along with him." Beating her does not kill her; she stays in the library with the amber egg, and a Larval Tear buys a respec or a new face. The locked chest in the Grand Library, near her, holds Ranni's Dark Moon Ring. Her one line afterwards: "Oh little Ranni, my dear daughter. Weave thy night into being."
Mohg's dynasty runs on stolen blood and a god who never answers.
Mohg found the Formless Mother deep underground, and "his accursed blood erupted with fire." He built a palace, stole Miquella's cocoon from the Haligtree, and named himself consort of a god who "received no response" from the sleeping Empyrean. Varré is his recruiter above ground.
Varré's medal is the short road to Mohgwyn Palace; the other is a hidden waygate in the Consecrated Snowfield.
White Mask Varré The first NPC you meet; Mohg's recruiter
Stands at The First Step and calls you "maidenless." His item lore says Mohg abducted him but he became "the exception," able to "tame the accursed blood." He thinks the Two Fingers' words are "naught but rambling, senile delusions," and he wants you in the Pureblood Knights.
After the Hold and a Great Rune he moves to Rose Church in southwest Liurnia. Answer "They didn't seem right" ("magnificent" ends it). Invade three times; offline, invading Magnus the Beast Claw's sign at Writheblood Ruins on Altus is the usual route. Soak the Lord of Blood's Favor in a maiden's blood without killing Irina or Hyetta: the dead Finger Maiden in the Chapel of Anticipation (via the Four Belfries) works. He gives the Bloody Finger and the Pureblood Knight's Medal. At Mohgwyn, fight his red sign before you kill Mohg.
Ends
Dies invading you in the mausoleum hall: "Bless the Mohgwyn Dynasty, with love!" Exhaust him for Varré's Bouquet.
Mohg, Lord of Blood Omen twin of Morgott; optional shardbearer
Where Morgott hid his horns and served, Mohg embraced them. "Wishing to raise Miquella to full godhood, Mohg wished to become his consort." He greets you in the cocoon's chamber: "Dearest Miquella. You must abide alone a while." At half health his Nihil ritual bleeds you from across the arena; the Purifying Crystal Tear from Eleonora in Yura's quest blunts it, and Mohg's Shackle from the Shunning-Grounds stuns him twice.
Fresh run
Optional. Kill him before burning the Erdtree and Gideon learns Bloodboon. Report the palace to Gideon for Fevor's Cookbook and Mohg's death for Law of Causality. Fight Varré first.
Mohg, the Omen Sewer boss; the door to the Three Fingers
In the Cathedral of the Forsaken under Leyndell, down from the Forsaken Depths grace. He reads as an illusion, or as an earlier manifestation of Mohg; the game does not say which. An illusory wall at the back of the cathedral, behind the altar, opens the way down to the Frenzied Flame Proscription, and the cathedral itself only opens once Morgott is dead.
Under Leyndell, the Three Fingers and the Dung Eater each offer a different way to ruin the world.
The Subterranean Shunning-Grounds are where the Golden Order buried what it could not stand: the Omen, the Great Caravan, the Three Fingers themselves. Two of the six endings start down here. The Frenzied Flame's creed, as Hyetta delivers it, is that creation was a mistake and the fix is to "melt it all away, with the yellow chaos flame, until all is One again." The Dung Eater's is smaller and meaner: a curse on every child ever born.
Irina has to die for Hyetta to exist. Edgar's grief supplies one of her grapes.
Bloody Finger Hunter Yura Ronin who hunts invaders
Hunts Bloody Fingers, "Tarnished held in thrall by cessblood," and once loved the deadliest of them, Eleonora. "I must not die until she is eradicated." He knows Dragon Communion and warns you off it.
Under the overpass northeast of Seaside Ruins by Agheel Lake. You must talk to him here or he never reappears.
Fresh run
Nerijus invades in the ravine toward Murkwater Cave; Yura joins and Nerijus drops Reduvia. Find Yura under the bridge afterwards. At the Main Academy Gate use his red sign against the Ravenmount Assassin. At the Second Church of Marika on Altus he lies dying; talking to him summons Eleonora, who drops the Purifying Crystal Tear (for Mohg). Take his Nagakiba. Reaching the Mountaintops locks all of this.
Ends
His body walks again at Zamor Ruins with someone else inside.
Shabriri The most reviled man in history, in Yura's skin
His eyes were gouged out as punishment for slander, and the madness of the Frenzied Flame filled the sockets. "The Tarnished who would be Lord, he is dead. As for his flesh, he gave it to me, Shabriri." He argues that inheriting the flame lets your flesh be the kindling so Melina can be spared. "May chaos take the world!"
First met
Zamor Ruins grace, Mountaintops of the Giants, once Yura's quest has run its course.
Fresh run
Kill him for the Ronin's set. Take the flame and he vanishes, leaving the set, and can be summoned against Godfrey. Cure the flame with Miquella's Needle and he is gone.
Hyetta Blind lightseeker; Finger Maiden of the Three Fingers
A blind woman eating Shabriri Grapes, "yellowing, oozing eyeballs of the infirm," to follow a distant light. She has Irina's face and clothes, which is where the reading that she is Irina's body comes from, though the game never says it. She only appears once Irina's story has ended in Irina's death.
Do not kill Irina. Grape one is in Stormveil near Godrick's throne room, grape two in the cellar under the Purified Ruins, grape three from Edgar the Revenger at Revenger's Shack. At Gate Town Bridge tell her the truth: "They're human eyes." At Bellum Church she wants the Fingerprint Grape from Vyke at the Church of Inhibition. Then she waits at the Proscription door. Opening it locks the Frenzied Flame ending until Miquella's Needle.
Ends
Becomes Finger Maiden Hyetta, delivers the Three Fingers' creed, and burns, leaving the Frenzied Flame Seal.
Irina Edgar's blind daughter
Sits past the Bridge of Sacrifice on the Weeping Peninsula after Castle Morne's servants rose against their masters. She gives you a letter for her father. She is found dead at the bridge with an Iron Cleaver beside her, and Hyetta appears in Liurnia afterwards.
Edgar Castellan of Castle Morne; later the Revenger
Appointed by Godrick and unwilling to leave the Grafted Blade Greatsword unguarded. Kill the Leonine Misbegotten, talk to him, and he goes to find Irina. Finding her dead breaks him. He invades as Edgar the Revenger at Revenger's Shack in west Liurnia and drops a Shabriri Grape, which is Hyetta's third.
Fresh run
Take Irina's letter before entering Liurnia. Kill the Misbegotten before talking to him at the castle. Kill the Revenger before the Misbegotten and the chain breaks.
Dung Eater Defiler of corpses; the curse ending
A Tarnished named in the opening cinematic as "the loathsome Dung Eater." He defiles corpses to grow Seedbed Curses so that souls cannot return to the Erdtree. His aim: "They'll be born cursed, all of them. Along with their children, and their children's children." He wears the Omen set out of admiration.
Tied to
Seluvis (potion turns him into a puppet), Boggart (dies in his invasion).
First met
Roundtable Hold, the locked room past the Twin Maiden Husks, which opens after any Altus grace. His spirit gives the Sewer-Gaol Key if you carry a Seedbed Curse.
Fresh run
First curse: the seated corpse on the top floor at East Capital Rampart. Free him from the gaol below the Underground Roadside grace. He invades at the moat outside Leyndell. He needs five curses, and six exist (the Leyndell rampart, the Fortified Manor, Boggart's body, Volcano Manor's cages, two in Elphael); where the hand-in happens, his cell or the Hold, is not reported consistently, so try his cell first. Do it before burning the Erdtree. Never give him Seluvis's Potion if you want his ending.
Ends
Mending Rune of the Fell Curse: the Blessing of Despair ending. His Omen set and the Sword of Milos come along the way.
The Haligtree is Miquella's answer to a Golden Order that could not heal his sister.
Miquella "abandoned fundamentalism" because it "could do nothing to treat Malenia's accursed rot." He turned to Unalloyed Gold, which "wards away the meddling of outer gods," grew the Haligtree as a sanctuary for the unwanted, especially the Albinaurics, and planted himself into it as a cocoon. Mohg cut him out. Malenia sits at the bottom of Elphael waiting for a brother who is not coming. Everyone in this circle is aimed at Malenia, or at the tree she is waiting under.
The needle that cures the Frenzied Flame is forged from Millicent's needle and Malenia's flower.
Millicent Malenia's bud; the rot questline
Found as a baby in the Swamp of Aeonia by Gowry, one of the "buds" that fell from Malenia's bloom. "I am of Malenia's blood. But in what capacity I know not. I could be sister, daughter, or an offshoot." She wants to give Malenia back the "dignity, the sense of self" that resisted the rot, and she refuses to be remade: "If I am to flower into something other than myself, I would rather rot into nothingness as I am."
Church of the Plague, northeast of Gowry's Shack, Caelid.
Fresh run
Kill Commander O'Neil in Aeonia for the Unalloyed Gold Needle; Gowry mends it; give it to her. She moves to Gowry's Shack, then Erdtree-Gazing Hill on Altus, where she needs the Valkyrie's Prosthesis from the Shaded Castle. Summon her for the Godskin Apostle at Windmill Village; killing him before her Altus meeting breaks the quest. Then Ancient Snow Valley Ruins, then the Prayer Room in Elphael. Kill the Putrid Tree Spirit west of the Drainage Channel grace and two signs appear. Finish before Malenia.
Ends
Gold sign: kill her four sisters, she pulls her needle and dies, leaving the Unalloyed Gold Needle. Red sign: kill her for Gowry, and he vanishes. The gold path is the only route to Miquella's Needle.
Gowry Sage of the Order of Rot; a pest in a man's shape
Lives in a shack east of Sellia. "Since Malenia fought Radahn, and the great scarlet flower blossomed in Aeonia, I have dedicated myself to her." Attack him and he turns into a Kindred of Rot and is back at his desk on reload. He wants Millicent to bloom into "a scarlet valkyrie" and Malenia to reach her third bloom.
Fresh run
Do not kill him before Millicent's quest is done. A wandering giant dog can kill him mid-dialogue; clear it first. His Flock's Canvas Talisman drops whichever way the quest ends.
Malenia, Blade of Miquella Goddess of Rot; optional shardbearer
Born with the rot and undefeated anyway. Her Cleanrot Knights beat Godrick and then met Radahn in Caelid, where "Radahn and Malenia locked in stalemate. Then, the scarlet rot blooms." A blind swordsman in blue, who once "sealed an ancient god of Rot," tutored her. She retreated to the Haligtree to wait for Miquella. Her defeat line is to him: "O, dear Miquella. I'm sorry."
Fresh run
Both halves of the Haligtree Secret Medallion at the Grand Lift of Rold, then the Ordina evergaol: four candles, invisible assassins. Finish Millicent first. After the fight, use the Unalloyed Gold Needle on the flower in her arena for Miquella's Needle and a Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone. Report her death to Gideon.
Miquella The absent Empyrean
Cursed with eternal childhood. In the base game he is a cocoon in Mohg's palace and a set of intentions read off other people's items: the Haligtree, Unalloyed Gold, the needles, the Golden Epitaph's prayer for Godwyn, "O brother, lord brother, please die a true death." The link to St. Trina is stated and unexplained here. Everything else is the DLC.
Latenna the Albinauric Magic archer who becomes a spirit ash
Cannot move since her wolf Lobo died. She wants to reach the Haligtree and will become a spirit to get there. Her path is the Albinauric half of the medallion story; Ensha's massacre of her village is the other half.
Slumbering Wolf's Shack, at the far end of Lakeside Crystal Cave, past the Bloodhound Knight.
Fresh run
Get the Right half from Albus first, then show it to her; she dies and becomes an ash. Getting the Left half at Castle Sol before meeting her kills her. At the Apostate Derelict in the far north of the Consecrated Snowfield, summon her beside the giant Albinauric woman for a Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone.
Albus The Albinauric in the pot
Hiding as a pot on the hill at the Village of the Albinaurics. Hit the pot, not the man. He gives the Haligtree Secret Medallion (Right) and dies of old age. Picking it up is what triggers Ensha's ambush at the Hold.
Loretta, Knight of the Haligtree Carian knight turned gatekeeper
A royal knight who left Caria to find a sanctuary for the Albinaurics, chose the Haligtree, and swapped glintstone for unalloyed gold. Her spectre guards Caria Manor; her real self guards the Haligtree's gate.
Marika's household is the people you meet on the throne's own side.
Melina is your maiden, and she calls Marika mother. Morgott guarded the capital behind a mask, Godfrey was sent away and comes back for it, and Gurranq ate death to keep it locked. Goldmask and Corhyn work out the flaw in the Order. At the top there is Radagon, and then the Elden Beast.
All the lines lead into the tree. Marika does not speak in the base game except as an echo.
Melina Your Finger Maiden; the kindling
"Burned and bodiless," she appears after your third grace in Limgrave and offers an accord: she turns "runes into strength" and gives you Torrent, and you take her to the foot of the Erdtree. "I was born at the foot of the Erdtree. Where mother gave me my purpose." Her mother is never named in the base game. At Leyndell she leaves to learn that purpose; when the thorns block the door she proposes the Forge of the Giants and hands you the Rold Medallion. At the Forge she burns: "O Erdtree, you shall burn. Burn, for the sake of the new Lord."
Tied to
Marika (as "mother"), Hyetta and Shabriri (the Frenzied Flame replaces her as kindling), Morgott (summonable for him).
First met
Gatefront grace, Limgrave, after resting at three graces.
Fresh run
Take the Frenzied Flame before the Forge and she leaves for good: "Should you rise as the Lord of Chaos, I will kill you, as sure as night follows day." Her plea before that: "Life endures. Births continue. There is beauty in that, is there not?" Take it after the Forge and she is already gone.
Ends
Kindling at the Forge, or the avenger who returns in the Frenzied Flame ending "to deliver you what is yours: Destined Death."
Morgott, the Omen King (Margit) Marika's son; Leyndell's defender
Born with horns and tail, hidden in the Shunning-Grounds with his twin, and loyal to the Erdtree regardless. He invented Margit the Fell to defend the capital without showing his face, at Stormveil's gate and in the fields outside Leyndell. His remembrance says he "loved not in return, for he was never loved, but nevertheless, love it he did." He calls the other demigods "wilful traitors, all." Dying, he learns the tree is closed to everyone: "We are all forsaken."
As Margit, on the bridge before Stormveil's gate. Margit's Shackle from Patches stuns him.
Fresh run
Mandatory. His death seals the Frenzied Flame Proscription open and sends Melina to fetch the Rold Medallion. Resting at any Leyndell grace makes Melina leave until he is dead.
Godfrey, First Elden Lord (Hoarah Loux) Marika's first husband; the first Tarnished
"Chieftain of the badlands," a "ferocious warrior." He took the beast regent Serosh onto his back to leash his lust for battle, led the war against the giants, and became the first Elden Lord. When his last worthy enemy fell "the hue of Lord Godfrey's eyes faded," and Marika sent him and his warriors away without grace. They were the first Tarnished. He comes back after the Erdtree burns, greets Morgott's corpse, kills Serosh mid-fight, and fights as Hoarah Loux. Beaten, he says "Brave Tarnished, thy strength befits a crown."
Fresh run
His golden shade blocks the road in Leyndell before Morgott. The real fight is in the Ashen Capital after Gideon. Nepheli and Shabriri can be summoned for it.
Gurranq, Beast Clergyman (Maliketh) Marika's shadow; keeper of Destined Death
Marika's half-brother and shadowbound beast. "Marika's sole need of her shadow was a vessel to lock away Destined Death. Even then, she betrayed him." After Ranni stole a fragment he "bound the blade within his own flesh, such that none might ever rob Death again." He hides at the Bestial Sanctum eating Deathroot to keep the leak contained. D introduces you. In Farum Azula he fights you as Maliketh: "Why covet Destined Death? To kill what?"
Tied to
D, Marika, Ranni (the thief), Rykard (the Blasphemous Claw was made against him).
First met
Bestial Sanctum, Dragonbarrow, via the waygate near the Third Church of Marika.
Fresh run
Nine Deathroots, one reward each, ending with an Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone. After the fourth he attacks; knock some health off and he calms. Killing Maliketh does not remove Gurranq; only the ninth root does.
Ends
Maliketh's death unbinds Destined Death and turns Leyndell into the Ashen Capital.
Goldmask The silent scholar; the Age of Order
A Tarnished named in the opening as "the ever-brilliant Goldmask." He speaks once in the whole game, a gasp at the reveal. He stands facing the Erdtree working out the flaw in the Golden Order, and the flaw is Marika and Radagon. Solve the riddle for him and his corpse in the Ashen Capital holds the Mending Rune of Perfect Order.
North end of the Forest-Spanning Greatbridge, Altus Plateau.
Fresh run
At the Leyndell colosseum he is stuck. Take the Golden Order Principia from the chair above the Erdtree Sanctuary grace, learn Law of Regression (37 Intelligence, or a respec), and cast it at the statue below the Sanctuary on the message "Regression alone reveals secrets." Do this before burning the Erdtree.
Brother Corhyn Golden Order cleric; incantation teacher
Sells incantations at the Hold and idolises Goldmask. He follows him to Altus, to Leyndell, and to the Mountaintops, and the revelation that "Radagon is Marika" shakes his faith; Goldmask's death breaks it.
Roundtable Hold. Buy what you want before you touch Altus; he leaves the Hold then.
Fresh run
Tell him where Goldmask is. After the riddle they move to the bridge south of Stargazers' Ruins. Offer him the Tonic there or not. Without it he ends raving and hostile in the Ashen Capital; with it he stays at the bridge, forgetful, then vanishes. His flail, robe and bell bearing drop either way.
The Two Fingers Envoys of the Greater Will
The Roundtable's is the only living Two Fingers still talking. "Seek another of its kind. To become Elden Lord, and restore the Golden Order." After two Great Runes: "The Greater Will is pleased." After the Erdtree burns they go dormant and point at the sky. Ranni kills her own with the Fingerslayer Blade, "proof of the high treason committed by the Eternal City," and Varré calls theirs senile.
Radagon of the Golden Order, and the Elden Beast The last two fights
Radagon was a red-haired champion who fought the Carians, married Rennala, studied their sorcery, and then left her to become Marika's king consort. "Thus did the hero aspire to be complete." Marika's echo names him "leal hound of the Golden Order" and "mine other self." When Marika shattered the Ring he tried to repair it with the same hammer. The Elden Beast is the vassal beast that became the Ring, and the Sacred Relic Sword you get afterwards is "wrought from the remains of a god who should have lived a life eternal." Then you touch Fractured Marika and choose.
The wanderers have arcs of their own that cross the map alongside yours.
These characters belong to no faction. Alexander walks from Limgrave to Farum Azula to become a champion. Boc wants to be beautiful. Kalé sells you a crafting kit and, in the shipped game, never moves. A few invaders keep turning up.
Iron Fist Alexander The warrior jar
A living jar holding the essence of many warriors, forever looking for the next fight. You free him from the ground on Stormhill, from the back of the Gael Tunnel on the Caelid border, and from a hole in Liurnia; the first and the last earn you Exalted Flesh. He fights beside you at Radahn, bathes in lava on Mt. Gelmir, and asks for a last duel in Farum Azula.
Talk to him at Redmane before killing Radahn. In Liurnia (above Jarburg) you need an Oil Pot before hitting him. Visit him in the Seethewater lava pool before the Fire Giant. His duel is by the Dragon Temple Lift in Farum Azula; win it for the Shard of Alexander and his Innards, which go to Jar-Bairn.
Jar-Bairn Alexander's nephew at Jarburg
A young jar in the village under the Carian Study Hall. He wants a Potentate to protect the jars; Diallos takes the job and dies at it. Give him Alexander's Innards afterwards and reload for the Companion Jar talisman. Nothing here can fail.
Boc the Seamster Demi-human tailor
A talking bush by the Murkwater bridge. Get his Sewing Needle and Tailoring Tools back from the Coastal Cave and he alters armour for you across the map. The Gold Sewing Needle from the Church of Vows lets him alter demigod armour. He asks, late on, what you really think of his looks.
Fresh run
At East Capital Rampart, after Rennala, he asks about his appearance. Give him a Larval Tear and he is reborn human beside Rennala, then dies. Bring the Prattling Pate "You're Beautiful" from Hermit Village and affirm him, and he lives. Answer "what do you really think" without it and he dies. One hit kills him at any point.
Merchant Kalé Nomadic merchant at the Church of Elleh
Sells the Crafting Kit and the first cookbooks. His people, the Great Caravan, were "immured beneath the royal capital." Ask him about the howling in Mistwood and he teaches the Finger Snap that calls Blaidd down. A cut questline had him tracing the Caravan to the Shunning-Grounds and finding them executed as Frenzied Flame worshippers; in the shipped game he never leaves his church.
Old Knight Istvan invades on Stormhill and is Volcano Manor's first contract. Great Horned Tragoth is the manor's target for Patches and a summon for several bosses. Anastasia, Tarnished-Eater invades three times (Smoldering Church, Corpse-Stench Shack, Consecrated Snowfield) and drops a Somber Ancient Dragon Smithing Stone on the third. Festering Fingerprint Vyke at the Church of Inhibition is the Tarnished who nearly became Elden Lord and took the Frenzied Flame instead; he drops Hyetta's Fingerprint Grape.
